Mixing Urban and Traditional

Meet The Artists!

Mother and Daughter Team

Hello! My traditional name gifted to me is Women Following Mountains, and my English name is Rae-Anne LeBrun. I identify as a queer mixed indigenous daughter who is learning and healing on the traditional ancestral unceded territory of the Qayqayt people in New Westminster.

From my Mothers side I am Cree, Prussian, and English and from my Fathers side I am Maltese.

I created Decolonizing Daughters in 2017 while I was in college, and it was at first a poetry page on Instagram. I shared poems and stories about mental health and what it is like decolonizing as a daughter who is doing her own healing work. It later became me and my Mother spending time together every Sunday where we would make salves and massage candles that my Moms Great Grandma would make her.

Aside from being an artist, daughter, sister, cat mom, and partner.. I am also a Cultural Wellness Counselor at an indigenous organization located on the traditional shared ancestral unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in Vancouver.

Hello! My traditional name gifted to me is Changing River and my English name is Danialle. I identify as a queer mixed indigenous Mother who is always learning and changing.

From my Fathers side I am Cree and Prussian, and from my Mothers side we are English.

I started to help out my Daughter Rae-Anne with Decolonizing Daughters in 2019 when I started to really focus on my healing journey and working alongside the medicines and culture. I then started to share my poetry with my beadwork in 2020 and started to open up more about healing, mental health and wellness. Doing this work with my daughter has brought us so close, and it has allowed us to do the healing work we needed to do for family and ourselves.

Aside from being an Mother, artist, daughter, sister, and karaoke star.. I am also a Intake Counselor for a healing treatment lodge for indigenous youth at an indigenous organization located on the traditional shared ancestral unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in Vancouver.

I am thankful that I get to do this work, as well as learn an celebrate all parts of who I am.
